Dear Parents & Carers,
Our Arts Fortnight has begun! The children are looking forward to taking part and celebrating art from around the world. Each class will be learning about the arts of different countries; this will include the artwork, music, dance and culture of each country.
We would like to set up a few permanent Art installation that reflect our school community and we would love for you to get involved! We would like to make:
- an installation made up of a thousand origami doves symbolising peace, life and freedom;
- a colourful display made from bangles, and;
- a community patchwork wall hanging.
You can find out how to make an origami dove using the video below, and we will provide some paper for you to make one. (You can also find the tutorial video at www.tinyurl.com/origamipaperdove.)
Please also have a clear out of all those old bangles you might have that you know you don’t need. Please donate them to the school. We are going to make an installation of these – but we need lots to make a colourful display, as the picture below shows:
If you have any brightly coloured materials or outfits you are going to recycle, please cut them into squares of 18 x 18 centimetres and hand them into your child’s class teacher, we will use these to make our community patchwork hanging.
We would like volunteers to help to make a giant patchwork hanging to reflect our global school community in the shape of a globe using different materials. Please do volunteer, it will be great fun, a chance to work with other parents and make friends. Please don’t worry about not being able to speak English, we will find a way of communicating!
We have done projects like this before, for example the mosaics round the school and the framed felt collages in the school hall. We hope you will take part in whatever way you can, and we appreciate any help you can give us.
